Qualgro Investment Manager Badai Tanmizi recently joined a panel sharing perspective on ‘ Shaping Exits for Startups in Southeast Asia: IPO vs M&A” at Penang Slush’d.
Badai emphasized the importance of valuing startups with the exit in mind, noting that what ultimately matters is the valuation achieved at exit, not during fundraising. He explained how strategic buyers often prioritize synergies such as market expansion, talent, and technology, while financial buyers focus more on operational improvements and returns.
He also highlighted that regional coverage is critical, startups limited to a single market face restricted exit opportunities, while those that expand across Southeast Asia are far more attractive to global acquirers.
